Dwarka takes day-long yoga break

Parks and open spaces in various societies across the sub city were abuzz with activity as residents celebrated International Yoga Day.

Dwarka takes day-long yoga break Yoga session in Progress at Sector 11, Dwarka.

Yoga camps were organised across Dwarka to commemorate International Yoga Day on Sunday. Neighbourhood parks, district parks and open spaces in the residential societies were scene of the celebration where people could be seen holding yoga sessions in groups.

For regular yoga groups in the sub city, a yoga session was a routine. Unlike others who strike an asana (posture) or two to be part of the global celebration, they remained focussed on their rigorous daily routine.

It was yoga all the way in Dwarka. While a yoga group comprising both men and women held a yoga session in DDA Park of Sector 9, Senior Citizens’ Association organised a camp at Sector 6 central park. Likewise residents of Sector 13 and 11 held yoga sessions in their respective district parks. These yoga sessions organised under the aegis of DDA, Ayush Ministry and Patanjali Yog Peeth kept the sub city abuzz with activity throughout the day.

More than 100 people took part in the 2-hour long yoga session organised in Sector 6 by the Senior Citizens’ Association.

While people from all age groups observe yoga day, senior citizens were not lagging behind. There were many whose age had not reduced their fitness consciousness, others turned up at the yoga session to celebrate the ancient Indian science of healthy living. Such people also struck various yogaasanas (postures), albeit as a ritual.

On the occasion, naturopathy experts gave some tips to the participants. Lectures on the importance of yoga in day-today life were also organised for the community. After each lecture, audience were allowed to ask their queries. Most of the questions posed to the experts were related to asanas where the questioners wanted to know which asanas suits their respective requirements.

Speaking about plans of the Senior Citizens’ Association to promote yoga, its General Secretary and resident of Harsukh Apartments Sector 7, Ravi Jaitely, said, “As the response to the programme was quite encouraging we are prompted to hold more such yoga events in future.”
