Ghaziabad: Following the orders from the state government to protect couples entering into inter-faith and inter-caste marriages, Ghaziabad police has started a helpline number for such couples. This is first-of-its-kind initiative started by Uttar Pradesh police administration.

Now couples facing trouble before or after their marriage can reach 0120-2821120 to seek direct help from the police in Ghaziabad.

This helpline number is the office contact number of Sudheer Kumar Singh, SSP Ghaziabad.

Singh told that adult couples marrying on their own wish, harassed by their parents, relatives and others, come to his office for help. “The helpline would give them a direct access to avail help or protection whenever required,” he said.

This initiative would also encourage the couples who are forced to not run away from the city. Singh told that in many cases the couples are forced to leave the city after their parents disallow their marriage and attempt to create trouble for them. “Now they don't have to run away. We will give them protection,” Singh added.

On August 31, UP government had ordered state police to provide protection to those married couples who entered into inter-caste and inter-faith marriages. The order directed the district magistrate or SSP concerned to prosecute those why try to create trouble for such couples.
