The supply of Ganga water to residents of Noida is going to be stopped for some time due to the presence of silt in the water at Gang Nahar dam.

Samakant Srivastava, the in-charge of the Ganga Water Project, Noida Authority, said, “Owing to heavy rains in Uttarakhand over the past few days, the water at Gang Nahar dam has quite a bit of silt mixed in it. Hence, supply of water from the dam has been stopped. Noida will not get its Ganga jal supply till the water is cleaned of silt. The four water supply divisions have been alerted and asked to supply groundwater to residents.”

Groundwater in Noida is hard and sometimes saline. Noida Authority has been mixing Ganga water with it to reduce its heaviness and salinity. Water consumption in Noida is 360 MLD (million litres per day), of which 160 MLD is Ganga water. This is supplied to various sectors in Noida from the water treatment plant in Sector 65.
