Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is all set to use solar energy to power the Noida-Greater Noida Metro line, currently under construction. NMRC announced that it will instal solar panels to power all the 22 stations on this route.

The installation of solar panels, in a budget of Rs 75 crore, will start once the construction of all the stations from Noida Sector 71 to Greater Noida is completed.

The trial runs for this new Metro line are likely to start from July 2017, and the line is expected to be open to the public from December 2017.

VK Jain, general manager of NMRC, told City Spidey that the solar panels will be installed on the station roofs. NMRC hopes to produce 10MV electricity by harnessing solar energy.
