Residents of Skytech Matrott, in Sector 76, Noida, complain of frequent malfunctioning of lifts in all eight towers of the society.

Tower H was the last to be hit by the problem, when its lift suddenly stopped working on Tuesday, forcing residents to climb the stairs all the way up to the 16th floor. About 45 families in the tower were affected, senior citizens the most.

Vimal Sharma, a resident, told City Spidey that his father was an asthma patient and that climbing up all the way to their seventh-floor flat gave him a respiratory attack. “The malfunctioning lifts are also left unattended for two-three days. This leaves many residents stranded in their own homes, as they don’t want to use the stairs,” he added.

City Spidey took up the matter with Rajesh Singh, maintenance manager appointed by the builder, Skytech. “We have OTIS lifts installed in all the society towers. Even if there are problems with their functioning, the maintenance office immediately sends technicians to take care of the issue.”

So are the residents just dreaming up the problem, Mr Sharma?
