The swimming pool in the upscale Grand Omaxe, a residential society in Sector 93B, Noida, is in a state of neglect, as residents complain that the management of the society is not taking its maintenance seriously.
Sunil Dupar, a resident, said that a few weeks ago, several children of the society fell ill after they entered the swimming pool. He alleged that the agency handling the maintenance of the pool has failed to hire professionals for the job. “The men deployed for the pool's upkeep do not know how to clean the water and how much chlorine should be added to keep it clean. They’re laymen, not professionals,” he said.
Residents said that the builder had outsourced the maintenance of the pool to an agency and that complaints to the builder about the issue had not yielded any results.
Prayga Barat, another resident, told City Spidey that she had been taking her kids to a private swimming pool since they fell ill on entering the society pool.
Siddharth Prakash, a resident, added another dimension. He said several tiles at the bottom of the pool had come off. “As the tiles are not being repaired, there is a constant fear that swimmers might get hurt. Also, the pool's motor is not functioning properly, and the the water is not being changed,” he added.
When City Spidey spoke to Anita Nagar, district sports officer, Noida, she said that she would enquire if the pool was operating on a licence. She added that if a complaint is received from residents, she would initiate action.
The district administration gives a six-month licence to swimming pools after a detailed inspection.
Praveen Singh, estate manager of Grand Omaxe, was not available for comment.
