New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal has been urged to recall his decision to create an isolation ward in the densely populated area of Kalkaji. The decision was part of the administration's effort towards preparedness for coronavirus threat.
Recently, the LG has issued an instruction to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to create an isolation ward in Poornima Sethi Hospital. The hospital is located in the densely populated area of Kalkaji.
Through a letter, Khavindra Singh Captain, advocate and former chairman of the MCD (Central zone), drew the attention of the LG to the subject. He also dashed off a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleging that the SDMC had taken the decision in haste.
The letter pointed out that if a COVID-19 positive or the suspected patient is admitted in the Poornima Sethi Hospital, chances are the virus would transmit to a large number of residents of nearby localities who come to the popular Kalkaji market for shopping.
Hence, the letter said it would be prudent for the SDMC and the LG to review the decision and set up the said isolation ward in a less populated area.
Speaking to CitySpidey, Captain said, "Under preparedness for COVID-19, many private hospitals have been listed to set aside an isolation ward. If the situation is like this, they might use other public or private properties for isolation or quarantine of patients.
"At present, neither a positive nor any suspected patient of COVID-19 has been admitted in the hospital as questions are being raised about its location,” said Captain.
