New Delhi: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Sunday defeated 2017 World Champion Vanesa Kaladzinskay of Belarus by 10-8 to win gold medal in women’s 53-kg category at the Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial Tournament at Kyiv.

This was her first international tournament since coronavirus induced lockdown and she has made a commendable comeback with this win.

Because of the pandemic, all the competitions were halted last year and this was the first competition for Vinesh. She has also secured a place in the 53-kg category in Tokyo Olympics and is the only Indian woman wrestler to do so.

The Indian wrestler will be participating in the Matteo Pellicone Event in Rome from March 10-15 and has been undergoing training in Europe since September 2020.

She had made India proud earlier as well by winning gold medal at 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Games.
