Choked sewers: Solution is but makeshift

"We are aware of the problem and will solve it soon.” This is the standard reply of Noida Authority to all the issues. And this was repeated once again when the residents of Sector 22 approached the authority with a problem which is making their life hell.

The puddles you see in the above picture are not from a drizzle. These puddles are formed by run-offs from a choked sewer line in Block G of Sector 22, Noida. Manholes leak twice every day leading to streams of sewer water in front of the Society’s homes.

Repeated complaints to the authority led to only makeshift solution and the problem resurfaces every other day.

"The authority cleans these manholes when we complain, but never comes up with a permanent solution. The entire line is choked," said Ramesh Shekhar, General Secretary, Block G RWA.

The sewer water even flows into homes forcing residents to increase the elevation of their residences.

City Spidey spoke to MP Sharma, Project Engineer of Noida Jal Board, who too came up with the usual makeshift response: "We are aware of the problem and will solve it soon."
