Two security guards of Ashiana Greens, a residential society in Indirapuram, were allegedly roughed up yesterday by the bodyguards of the central minister of state (tourism and culture), Dr Mahesh Sharma. The entire episode, which took place in the evening, was captured on the CCTV camera installed at the society’s entrance.

The minister was visiting his sister, a resident of the society, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Speaking to City Spidey, Pankaj Rai, RWA general secretary of Ashiana Greens, said the security guards -- Ajay Yadav and Abhay Pratap -- were doing only what they were supposed to do. They are responsible for checking visitors’ vehicles that enter the society. “It was wrong of the minister’s bodyguards to beat up the guards. They were just doing their duty,” Rai adds.

Gaurav Sharma, the society’s maintenance manager, said a complaint was filed at the police station by the RWA after the incident, but it was withdrawn after the BJP leader issued an apology.
