Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav's visit to Ghaziabad on September 5 brought the city to a standstill. The worst affected was Ghaziabad's trans-Hindon area. Residents of Vaishali, Vasundhara and Indirapuram were stuck on NH 24 for hours due to traffic congestion.

VK Pandey, a resident of Vaishali Sector 5, told City Spidey that he was stuck in Vaishali for more than two hours and finally had to return to his residence. "I tried all available routes to reach my office in Indirapuram but failed, as all the roads were chock-a-block with vehicles," he said.

Sources in the Ghaziabad traffic police department confirmed that the sudden spike in traffic was due to heavy motor vehicles being diverted from NH 57 to NH 24 for the CM's visit. The CM was in the city to inaugurate the newly built Haj House on NH 57.
