Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Noida Sector 19, on Friday, threw open a newly developed recreation club for senior citizens.

Inaugurating the club, a senior member of the RWA, Udya Singh Rawat, 84, said, “Hundreds of senior citizens live in the sector. But there was no common venue where they could meet and spend quality time. This problem is now solved.”

The club has facilities for indoor games like chess, carom, playing cards and other recreational activities.

The club has come up on a 900 square feet land adjacent to the RWA’s community centre. The RWA spent Rs 6 lakh to turn the plot, which was lying vacant, into a recreation club for elderly people.

Rishipal Singh Awana, President of the RWA, said the club has a seating capacity of 80 people. Senior citizens can organise parties, marriage ceremonies and birthday bashes here for free.

Besides, women’s groups and social organisations can organise events here after taking permission.
