A public toilet near OCS Apartments in Mayur Vihar Phase 1 Extension has been stinking to the high heavens for quite some time now. Ironically, it was constructed by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) under the "Swachch Bharat Mission" six months back, acting on the request of the society's managing committee.
"Our block is the worst affected," said Brijbhushan Sachdeva, a resident of Block B. "It either needs to be cleaned or shifted to a different location altogether. The stench is unbearable."
KK Verma, president of the group housing society, did not foresee this problem. "When the toilet was constructed, we were happy that it would stop people from urinating in the open. But the toilet is never cleaned and it has become more a problem than a solution."
When City Spidey spoke to EDMC Mayor Satya Sharma, she said a private company was responsible for the maintenance of the toilet. "I urge residents to submit a written complaint about this," said Sharma. "We will send a notice to the responsible company and get the problem solved."
