An MLA, a former MLC and three other members of a real estate company have been named in an FIR for allegedly swindling Rs 34 lakh from two Greater Noida residents on the pretext of selling them property in the city. The FIR was lodged by Yogendra Singh and Shristi Singh yesterday.

The duo said they had booked a flat and an office space in a project launched by Grand Peak Infrastructures Pvt Ltd in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park V in 2014. The duo had deposited Rs 34 lakh with the accused, as they had insisted that booking terms required them to pay half of the property cost upfront.

The duo, however, grew suspicious when they saw that construction work hadn't started even after two years. Upon discussing the matter with Greater Noida Authority, they found out that the accused had started advertising and booking without the property being sanctioned by the Authority.

In their complaint, the buyers have named Mohammed Aleem Khan, Bulandshahar MLA and chairman of Grand Peak; Mohammad Iqbal Khan, a former MLC and director of the company; Umar Jamshaid and Laveena Pant, directors of the company; and Gaurav Seth, VP of the company.

Abhishek Yadav, SP, Greater Noida, said the police was investigating the case. He said there was a chance that more people would come forward with similar complaints against the accused group. Sudhir Tyagi, SO Kasna, said they would take up the issue with the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority if required.
