The term "Aromatherapy" was given by French perfumer and chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé. Ancient cultures in China, India and Egypt used aromatic plant components in resins, balms, and oils.

Aromatherapy works with the sense of smell and skin absorption by using a variety of products such as essential oils, diffusers, inhalers, bathing salts, steamers, clay, hot and cold compressors, body oil or lotion for massage.

These products can be used in combination and alone too. Experts say essential oils used during aromatherapy activates areas in your nose called smell receptors, which sends messages to your nervous system.

When these oils activate a certain part of your brain, you may start feeling good because of the feel-good chemical release. Oils used during therapy on the skin also works to reduce joint pain and enhance body efficiency.
