The Song also got him the Grammy award for the best rock Vocal performance, Solo.  Meat Loaf, the 74-year-old American rocker whose debut album 'Bat Out  of Hell' was one of the best-selling albums of all time, died recently.  The rock legend was one of the most well-known musicians of all time, with millions of albums sold worldwide.

Meat Loaf became an enduring and sometimes bombastic rock icon in the late 1970s, delivering epic anthems about love, lust, and  motorcycles with an intensity bordering on melodrama. Born Michael Lee Aday, Meat Loaf had a successful career spanning six decades after becoming famous for his powerful, versatile voice. He was not just a singer and actor, sold over 100 million records worldwide and appeared in 'The Rocky Horror Show' and 'Fight Club'.

His most popular release was the Bat Out Of Hell album trilogy, known for its operatic rock style and the hit single of the same name. Meat Loaf's appeal extended far beyond hard rock fans, with hits like 'Bat Out of Hell's' nearly 10-minute title track, 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' from the same album, and 1993's 'I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't do That)'. 'Like a bat out of hell, I'll be gone when the morning comes; When the night is over, like a bat out of hell, I'll be gone, gone, gone,' Meat Loaf sang in "Bat Out of Hell", with a devotion that became his hallmark.

Though he went on to became one of the most successful rock star, Loaf's life was full of challenges. Aday was bullied at school because of his weight. He was born in 1947 in Dallas, Texas, to an alcoholic father who beat him and once tried  to kill him. He would, however, go on to become a rock legend around the world.

He moved to Los Angeles in search of fame, where he formed his first band. In the 1970s, he became well-known for his roles in the musicals 'Hair and 'The Rocky Horror Show'. "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the incomparable Meat Loaf," his family said in a statement. "Don't ever stop rocking!" speaks his heart to our souls.
