Noida: The residents of Noida and the commuters who travel through DND Flyover have complained about the non-functioning streetlights on the flyover. They say that it poses a threat to their safety as driving in dark there is dangerous and makes the area accident-prone. As per the GB Nagar's traffic police records, 798 road accidents happened in 2021 and 368 people lost their lives.

The GB Nagar police, on January 21, conducted a drive in which they pasted reflective tapes on vehicles, barricades and dividers to avoid accidents due to low visibility. The commuters say that it isn't enough if the streetlights do not function.

On this subject, Brajesh Sharma, a daily commuter from Noida to Delhi says, “It is very difficult to travel because of dysfunctioning streetlights. I don’t know why the authorities are delaying in taking action on this. During winters it is very difficult to drive there as the road is not visible clearly.”

Sharma further says, “Noida traffic police pasted reflectors only on the checkpoints points. However, in the middle of the highway, there is a bridge over the Yamuna and the street lights are not functioning there. So my suggestion is that police should paste reflectors on the  railings of the bridge because it’s not visible at night.”

Another commuter, Sunil Singh says, “I travel daily from Noida to Delhi. My office is in Hauz Khas, and it is very difficult to travel on the DND flyway at night, especially in the winters. Only two or three lights work on a stretch of ten lights. The funniest thing on the DND flyway is that the advertising hoarding board’s lights are always on.”

Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Noida says, “Maximum lights on DND flyover are not in working condition. When we travel from Delhi to Noida, 70 percent of streetlights are not working on the first part of the bridge and the condition of the road is not good either. It is very dangerous for us to travel at night. The reflective tapes will not be as much help as light.”
