Is a Metro station near your house a bane or a boon? Residents of Mecon Apartments in Sector 62, Noida, have been caught up in this debate for the past two weeks.

DMRC has planned a new Metro station in the sector, with an exit right in front of the society’s gates. Residents are worried about the crowd and the ruckus that will be created by autos and rickshaws so near the society, along with other law and order problems.

PS Chandna, Secretary of the RWA, said: “One can only imagine the kind of rush a Metro station in commercial areas such as sectors 62 and 63 will experience. If not addressed immediately, this will morph into a serious problem."

A letter from the RWA addressed to Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC, includes a request to relocate the entry/exit of the Metro station a few metres further away from the society gate. The letter also says that the planned location of the Metro exit might force the apartment to shift its main entrance towards the green belt behind the society.

When City Spidey took up the matter with CS Mudgal, Project Manager (Civil), DMRC, he said they were aware of the issue. "We are considering the possibility of relocating the entry/exit of the proposed Metro station so society residents are not inconvenienced," he said.
