Consortium of Societies-Ghaziabad (COG) alongwith Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) gave away dustbins to Indirapuram vendors and shop owners on October 23. The distribution was carried out at the horticulture department's nursery from 11.30 am onwards.

Dayanand Prasad, GDA's OSD, who initiated the drive, explained that the dustbins were being distributed to ensure clean roadsides and marketplaces. YN Chaudhry, head of GDA's enforcement cell, was also present at the drive. Shineberg, a local maintenance agency, provided the dustbins for free.

"We have planned to distribute 1,000 such dustbins each in Indirapuram, Vasundhara and Vaishali," said Sharat Jha, COG president. "The bins are not limited to just vendors and shopkeepers. We are open to providing free dustbins to any society that approaches us."

On being asked about who was responsible for maintaining the new dustbins, Arif Khan, a member of COG, said the consortium will be ensuring that they were being put to good use.
