What's Tomato Fever that is targeting children

Tomato fever or tomato flu is a type of viral disease that is targeting children below the age of five. According to some media reports, children are facing an unknown fever and the cause of this fever is still not identified as it can be a type of viral fever or after-effects of chikungunya virus or dengue fever. It got its name as it causes tomato sized blisters on the skin.

Till now, this fever has been detected in 80 children, all under the age of five in Kerala's Kollam district. To stop the spread of this fever, Kerala's neighboring district started to test people before entering Coimbatore. The medical officials are still searching for the main cause of the fever.

How can we treat tomato flu?

The tomato flu is a pandemic and close contact with the infected person can spread the disease. We must maintain distance from the infected person. Taking care of the hygiene and proper hydration should be done.

If the case is more critical, the person must visit a doctor and follow the prescribed medicines. Try to avoid scratching the rashes, as it will worsen the condition.

It is very important to take proper care of your child and try to build up his immunity stronger, make them eat healthy and nutritious home-cooked food, and avoid taking them to crowded areas. Make sure they wash their hands frequently and put on masks in public places.
