Delhi: Health Minister Satyendar Jain inaugurated the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation (NRC-OH-TC) on May 24, 2022. Furthermore, he also launched the official logo (insignia) of NRC-OH-TC. Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that most people are still not aware of their oral health and dental hygiene. This is the reason why the cases of oral cancer are increasing rapidly even among the youth.
National Resource Center for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation has been established with the objective of spreading awareness about the ill effects of tobacco and drugs, providing better training to the dentists of the country, and conducting research on dental health. It is the first National Resource Center among the total of 315 Dental Colleges in the country.

Oral health is as important as the health of your body
Health Minister Satyendar Jain said that every year more than 7 million deaths occur due to tobacco use across the world. This is an alarming signal for the people. Nicotine found in tobacco is very harmful to health and well-being. Due to its consumption, there is a possibility of dangerous diseases such as cancer, depression, and impotence, but people are still finding it difficult to stay away from consuming tobacco. Consuming tobacco weakens the brain and nervous system. If you want to avoid these diseases, then it is better to give up the addiction to consuming tobacco. It is important for everyone to understand that oral health is as important as the overall health of your body.
Dentists will be given better training in National Resource Centre
Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, "If a person gets addicted to tobacco, then a dentist can help a person to get rid of tobacco more than other doctors. Dentists of the country and the national capital will be given better training in this National Resource Center. Different types of training programs and sessions will be conducted here. Also, this center will play an important role in conducting research, and developing and supporting government policies. Various awareness programs related to health-related issues will also be organized here."
According to the minister in the last 10 years, 10,000 patients have been treated in MAIDS for tobacco prevention and cessation.
Helpless and needy people will get help in Resource Center
Dr. Sangeeta Talwar, Director, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi Gate, said that MAIDS is the first dental hospital recognized by NABH since 2011. The National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation, MAIDS will now play a key role in developing the range of dental health professionals in patient care, research, and tobacco cessation.
The important goals of the National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation:
- Spreading Awareness- Trying to make people more aware of the ill effects of tobacco and drugs.
- Participation in Research- Research will be done in this centre. Research papers will be made in different languages for health education. These research papers will be circulated to different places in the country.
- Dentist Training- To train the dentists of the country so that they can provide better treatment to other people.
- Post-treatment Responsibility- Once the habit gets released, it does not come again, the record of the patients will be kept even after the treatment. It will be helpful in providing advice and help to the patients.
