Ghaziabad: Shubhi Gupta makes India proud at Western Asia Chess Championship

From playing chess tournaments at home to representing her country in an international tournament and winning, 12-year-old Shubhi Gupta has certainly made her family and community proud. Her latest achievement on the chessboard has added another feather to her cap.

Shubhi Gupta, a resident of GH7 Society in the Crossing Republic has won a silver medal in Western Asia Chess Championship 2022 in the under 16 category. It was held from June 16-22, 2022 in Maldives. Daughter of Pradeep Gupta and Urmila Gupta, Shubhi is a class 8 student at Indirapuram Public School and has previously excelled in several national-level chess tournaments.

About 150 players from nine countries participated in this championship. Her last game was against Kyrgyzstan's Azizova Adalya from Kazakistan. Shubhi started with the Grunfeld opening in the final set and after 50 moves, defeated Adalya to win the silver medal. Moreover, India was also awarded the Best Federation Prize in this tournament.
