As a relief to Delhi residents, Delhi NCR finally received heavy rainfall during the morning hours of Monday, June 30, 2022. After days of hot and humid weather, the temperature came down to 27 degrees celsius. Many parts of the city including the South Delhi area like Gurgram and East of Kailash, Burari in the northwest, Shahdara, Patparganj in East Delhi, ITO crossing and India Gate in Central Delhi saw heavy rainfall.
The Indian Meteorological Department in a tweet during the morning hours has declared the arrival of monsoons in Delhi NCR. “Southwest monsoon has further advanced into entire Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmiri, some parts of Rajasthan, entire Delhi, some parts of Punjab and Haryana today,” said IMD.
Expecting heavy rains in the coming days an orange alert has been declared by the weather department. As gathered by news reports, IMD has also warned of heavy rainfall in other parts of the city on Thursday and moderate rainfall on July 1. As per the IMD the maximum temperature is expected to come down to 34-35 degrees Celsius.
Besides the relief from the heat, the rain brought traffic congestion and chaos in some parts of Delhi. Heavy traffic was witnessed on Noida Bypass Flyover. Moreover, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories for road commuters.
Delhi Traffic Police, at 10 am tweeted, "Thunderstorm with light to moderate intensity rain and gusty winds would occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi. Commuters are advised to plan their journey," it instructed. Subsequently, they have been instructing of jams in the various part of the city such as the IIT Flyover towards Munirka, the Railway underpass Pul Prahladpur and other areas. At 10: 45 am, an advisory read, “Kindly avoid Akbar Road, Janpath and Maulana Azad Road from 1015 hrs to 1045 hrs due to special traffic arrangements,"
