The dirty picture

Ghaziabad releases about 850 metric tonnes of solid waste every day. Heaps of trash lying neglected on Ghaziabad roads indicate a lack of proper sanitation in the city. Though Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, the official body responsible for the city's cleanliness, makes tall claims about the effectiveness of its Clean UP, Green UP campaign, the reality is different.

City Spidey did a quick recce of the city yesterday. Here are four spots it found especially appalling.

One bag fits all? A sanitary worker tries to make the most of the sack and the rickshaw he's given. Seen in front of the MMG District Hospital, GT Road, Ghanta Ghar.

Mudslinging: A choked drain in Vijay Nagar, thanks to the garbage dumped in it. People, really, stop dumping it in the drain.

Foragers' feast: Stray dogs and cattle gravitate towards open garbage piles, such as the main road near Holy Child School, Nehru Nagar.

The stink rises: Garbage piles up outside  Ramte Ram Pakka Talab, a familiar pond in Ghazibad.
