Around 4,600 contract workers, including garbage collectors, of Noida Authority have gone on strike since December 8, and no waste has not been collected since the last two days, causing the entire city to stink.
RWAs across the city feel that Noida Authority must urgently work on the impasse, and the protesting workers must be sent back to work as quickly as possible.
Ashok Chaturvedi, Secretary of Sector 15A, told City Spidey, "The garbage dumps have started to stink real bad. We have spoken to higher officials of Noida Authority, and they have confirmed that the problem would be resolved within the next two to three days."
Pyare Lal, president of Sector 20, said, "We have two places where the residents throw out the garbage -- one near block A and the other near block E. The garbage has started to rot, and the smell has become unbearable!"
Anger among residents has been mounting. Rajeev Garg, secretary of Sector 27, complained, "It is the Noida Authority's responsibility to provide workers to all the RWAs. The situation is spiraling out of control."
Noida Authority contract employees -- sanitation workers, electricians, gardeners and others -- staged a city-wide rally and road block on December 9 to protest against the non-payment of salaries since October owing to the demonetisation drive.
The rally started at 9 am and ended at 3 pm in front of the Authority's Sector-6 office.
