Dwarka: Preparations for Chhath Puja in full swing

Dwarka: One of the largest religious celebrations of the people from Poorvanchal in the National Capital, Chhath Puja is going to be held this weekend. To ensure smooth conduct of the celebration, administration, government, community organisations and social organisations are making efforts. They are busy in preparing Chhath Ghats so that devotees could get a comfortable spot for worship on the evening of October 30, 2022 and the morning of October 31 October, 2022.

In Sector 11, Dwarka, the Chhath Puja is being organised at a large scale by Dwarka Religious Social and Cultural Association. The construction of the ghats has been completed and the works are in final stage. Organisers say that by tomorrow, October 27, 2022, all the work would be done. President of the association, Robin Sharma says, "Our Chhath celebration has become very popular. It is after all the biggest celebration in the sub-city. Looking at the increasing number of devotees, we have increased the number of ghats from 25 last year to 27 this year.  The whole area is being covered with carpet so that people can sit comfortably at the ghats. Besides that, there is also first aid facility and the medical facility if required for anybody at the ghat. This year, we are also making a traditional havan bhavan to perform rituals."

Robin says that this year, the celebration is going to be huge as people are enthusiastic to participate in Chhath puja after two years of restricted celebration. Robin also informs us that in Sector 11, after worship, the water in the ghats would be used to water plants in parks. “We have decided to not waste the water we use at celebration. That is why, we have arranged tankers to transfer the water from the ghats to green areas and parks to water the plants after puja.”

At many spots across the city, the numbers of ghats have been increased and the arrangements have upgraded by the organisations and authorities concerned. Dada Dev Mela Ground Chhath Ghat, Sector 8 DDA park Chhath Ghat, Sector 11 Chhath Ghat, Dwarka Dabri  Chhath Ghat, Nasirpur Chhath Ghat, Chhath Puja Ghat, Durga Park West Delhi and so on will host some of the biggest celebrations of Chhath in Dwarka and its surrounding areas in West Delhi.

There are various residential societies where pooja is being organised inside the society premises by the people Poorvanchal community with the support of RWAs. In some residential societies, the devotees will be conducting pooja at the roof top in artificial water tanks. At Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, the puja is being organised by Radhika Chhath Pooj Samiti. President of RWA of Radhika Apartments, Surendra Mishra says, “This year, we are celebrating Chhath puja in full swing with our traditional cultural events. We want the younger generation to know the rich culture of their homeland.”
