The admissions procedure for entry-level classes - Nursery, Kindergarten, and Class 1 in more than 1,800 private schools for the academic year 2023–24 will start from December 1, according to an official notification released by the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE). The first list of candidates who have been shortlisted will be made public on January 20, 2023, and the application deadline is December 23, 2022.

Moreover, the second list and the waiting list will be made available to the public on February 6, 2023. The application period will close on March 17, 2023.

By December 16, all schools will announce the specifications of all entry-level classes and the seats that are open for admission. According to the announcement, all private unaided recognised institutions must post their entry criteria online by November 28, 2022.

As per the official notification, "No deviation from the above schedule shall be permitted. Each school shall display the admission schedule on its notice board and website. Further, each school shall ensure that application forms for admission are made available to all applicants till the last date of submission."

Only a non-refundable cost of Rs 25 may be collected as an admission registration fee, according to the statement. It stated that parents' purchasing of the school prospectus would be optional.

Additionally, it was stated in the notification that all private schools will reserve 25% of seats for pupils from economically disadvantaged groups (DG), economically weaker sections (EWS), and children with impairments.

By December 16, schools must report the number of seats available and the admission requirements. The Department of Education has also mandated that the number of admission seats will not be less than the sum of the seats in entry-level classes throughout the previous three academic years — 2020–2021, 2021–2022, and 2022–2023 — at any given time.

“Eligible parents of students in the draw of lots will be informed at least two days before the date of the draw through the website, notice board and e-mail by the school,” the notification said.

The Delhi government declared February 8 to 14, 2023 as the days for resolving parents' concerns about the allotment of points to their children in the second list.
