Dwarka: For ‘Green Circle’, a Dwarka based NGO working on environment, celebration of the Republic day this year was quite different. They celebrated the day with a pledge to save the greenery of the city from termites. The cold foggy winter morning of Delhi was not a deterrent for the spirits of those eco-warriors who assembled at 8 am on 26 January opposite to Agrasen Apartments, Sector 7, Dwarka.
During discussion they decided to save the termite infected trees in the area. They even painted the bottom of the tree trunks with a protective coat of limestone power paint and followed-up the cleaning of horticultural waste at the triangular Park adjacent to Agrasen Apartments.

They painted branches of the trees with limestone solution, opposite to the Agrasen apartments to prevent them from termite infestation. “This is the first phase of the ongoing programme and we will repeat it with more trees in the coming days with the support of the Horticultural Department of DDA,” said Anurag Mohan, a member of Green Circle.
Vishal Lall, another member of Green Circle emphasised, “Well grown trees get uprooted due to termite infestation in the city. This is regular and a common sight. We need to protect and maintain the standing trees from such onslaughts. That is why we initiated today on Republic Day.”
Manish Gupta, President of Agrasen Apartments said, “Green Circle warriors cleaned the triangular park next to our society and planted fresh saplings of Neem, Mango, Jamun, Bel etc. This park remained unattended for a long time and was being used as a dumping yard by passers-by. We are thankful to warriors for the effort.”
Anurag from Agrasen Apartments Sector 7; Vishal Lall, from Bhrama Apartments; Saigal Manoj De, Rajesh Kumar and Attar Singh from Krishna Apartments, Sector 9; and Muralidhar from Diamond square Apartments Sector 6 paricipated in the programme as volunteers.
