Gurgaon’s dining hotspot, Sector 29 market, may soon be rid of traffic jams.

To ease round-the-clock congestion in the area, the traffic police will allow only one-way entry and exit into the market. Entry will be from the side of Crown Plaza Hotel, while exit will be from Kingdom of Dreams.

Signboards have been installed at several places to make the visitors aware.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar held meetings with shopkeepers, the SHO and local police officers on January 6. The decision of one-way traffic was finalised there.

The plan will be implemented on a trial basis. And, if successful, it will be extended further.

Balbir Singh, DCP traffic, said, “We are implementing the plan on a trial basis. If successful, it could be extended further. However, the success or failure will depend on the public. If they respond positively, it should certainly work.”

Dubai-based businessman Surendra Beniwal, also a resident of Essel Towers on MG Road, welcomed the move. He said, “Whenever I am in Gurgaon, I visit the market with my family. But the congestion is exhausting! Just crossing the road takes several minutes.”

He further added, “I feel the main problem is haphazard parking. I have always seen cars parked on both sides of the road. People don’t care enough to find a proper spot. They should be penalised severely.”

Suncity RWA secretary, VM Singh, too is pleased with the plan. He said, “This will certainly reduce congestion in the market. I go there often with my family to have dinner, but the traffic chaos is unbelievable! I hope the situation improves.”
