The grievance committee formed to look into the complaints of homebuyers from Mayfield Garden in Sector 51, Gurgaon, has found the builder guilty of taking Rs 12 lakh extra from all flat buyers.

According to the complaint filed by buyers, upon measuring, the 1,610-sq-ft flats sold by the builder turned out to be only 1,290 sq ft after measuring. There are 1,200 such flats, of which 1,000 have already been sold.

The enquiry committee, set up under Housing and Urban Development Authority (HUDA) administrator Yashpal Yadav, has submitted the report to Haryana chief minister’s office.

Yadav said the builder had also violated other rules. “Buyers were given possession flouting several rules of the Haryana government, which caused it to incur huge losses," he added.

"Builders are always brazenly violating rules," said Rajender Kumar, a resident of Mayfield Garden. "We homebuyers bear the brunt of these transgressions. There are so many cases of the builder delaying the delivery of flats even after buyers have paid for them. Something needs to be done to end the tyranny of builders."

Kumar also said that the builder had overcharged buyers for maintenance and parking space.
