A newly constructed building for dumping garbage near Dharamshila Hospital in Vasundhara Enclave has led residents to heave a sigh of relief.
The situation was particularly bad for residents of Triveni Apartments and Parwatiya B4 Apartments. The road opposite to these societies had become a permanent place for dumping garbage for the past several years.
The facility, constructed on a budget of Rs 78 lakh by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), was made operational last week.
Anand Kumar, municipal councillor of the area, said, “It’s an open garbage storage that can accommodate the waste of the whole of Vasundhara Enclave. There is enough space for segregation as well. It was really required, and the residents had been demanding one for the past several years.”
The garbage-strewn road has been cleared now. RP Singh, a member of the managing committee of Parwatiya B4 Apartment, said, “We had been raising this issue persistently. The entire stretch, hardly 100 m from the apartment, had turned into a permanent garbage dump. We really appreciate this initiative.”
Parasnath Chaturvedi, a resident of Triveni Apartments, said, “I really thank the members of the CGHS federation, which relentlessly pursued the issue with MLAs, councillors and Delhi ministers, and now we finally have a solution to our garbage woes.”
