A signage-board pole on the NH 24-Kala Patthar road intersection has been a cause for concern for commuters and residents in the area. The pole stands in the middle of the road and, locals say, is as good as invisible to commuters at night.

It does not have reflectors or luminescent paint on it, causing unsuspecting commuters to crash into it at night.

“I was taking the turn while returning from office last Monday, and I was almost about to drive into the pole," said Rohan Salaria, a resident of Vaishali. "I could not see the pole because of lights from an auto coming from the opposite direction."

Speaking to City Spidey, Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Amrapali Village, a society near the intersection, said he had a similar experience. “Locals are aware of the pole, so it is not such a big problem for them," said Kumar. "For people new to the area, it can prove lethal."

Residents also pointed out that in case of a traffic jam, the pole hinders traffic trying to get off the highway.

Speaking to City Spidey, Chakresh Jain, executive engineer of GDA, said that although the pillar had been around for a long time, they had never received any complaint about it. However, Jain maintained that the pole would be removed during the widening of the highway.
