Children from various schools across Gurgaon, along with female police personnel, took part in a self-defence workshop, Prahar, on March 26.
The event was held at Made Easy Preschool in Sector 56, Gurgaon. Hardeep Singh, the new deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, and Ravi Kalra, founder of The Earth Saviours Foundation, an NGO, were the chief guests at the event. Several social activists were also present.
Osho Kalia, a self-defence trainer who organised the event, taught participants a few basic, handy moves. Kalia, who has been a trainer for a decade now, provides free training to women, regardless of age or class.
"It is important that all women have basic training in self-defence," said Kalia. "It was an honour for me to train female police personnel. I am grateful to Gurgaon Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar for the opportunity."
"Such workshops are imperative for women," said Neena Khanna, an Australia-based social activist now living in Uniworld Gardens. "This was a great initiative and much needed."
