With the dry heat taking the city in its grip, FedAOA, the apex body of AOA in Ghaziabad, has urged societies and AOAs to keep earthen pots, locally called matkas, and saucers of fresh water outside their complexes.

These matkas and saucers will provide clean drinking water for pedestrians, and stray birds and animals respectively.

Speaking to City Spidey, Alok Kumar, FedAOA patron, said, “I have started with Arihant Harmony, my society, and have urged others to do the same. We are using matkas and earthen saucers, as they keep the water both clean and cool."

Animal lovers are happy about this simple yet effective measure.

Shresta Bhowmick, an animal enthusiast from Indirapuram, said, “In the absence of water, birds are the worst affected by dehydration. Most of the times, they consume water from drains — or from other contaminated sources. A water-filled saucer will be a lifesaver for sure."
