When the global trend is going eco-friendly, why should a golf course be otherwise! The DLF Golf and Country Club in DLF 5, Gurgaon, has a centralised sewage treatment plant to cater to its daily water requirements.
This golf course has the first Arnold Palmer Signature course in the country.
Speaking to City Spidey, Aakash Ohri, senior executive director, DLF 5, said, “We use HUDA water for drinking purposes, while the water discharged from all the condominiums — whether sewage or stormwater — is diverted and collected at the plant. Using the latest MBR [membrane bioreactor] technology, the water is recycled and then supplied to the golf course for irrigation. It is also used to recharge the lake in the golf course.”
The plant’s daily capacity stands at 15 million litres per day. During summers, the daily requirement shoots up to 11 million litres, while during the monsoons and winters, the daily consumption goes down to 7 million litres.
The plant also supplies water to the condominiums for horticultural purposes.
Ohri added, “This single plant connects all the buildings. Some of this water is also used at construction sites."
