A dead tree right in the middle of the slip road connecting NH 8 to Sukhrali village has become a threat to commuters, particularly at night.

Speaking to City Spidey, Vinita Pathodia, who works at Signature Towers, said, “I stay in Sector 17C, and every time I cross this tree, I find it surprising that the authorities have chosen to ignore this imminent threat to commuters.”

Furthermore, there’s no warning signal to indicate the presence of the tree.

“During the day, we can see the tree but, at night, it can be quite dangerous for vehicles and two-wheelers. It’s a disaster waiting to happen,” said Dilbagh Singh, an auto driver.

Here’s what’s puzzling: When nearly 50 trees have been felled on the stretch between sectors 17 and 18 for road widening and flyover construction, why has this dead tree been left standing?

Ajay Nirala, executive engineer of horticulture, MCG, answered, “We will first see if this tree comes in the way of the flyover, which is already under construction on this slip road. If not, we shall have to take the permission from the forest department for the tree’s removal."
