To ease the traffic snarls at major points in Gurgaon, diversions have been created at Iffco Chowk, Signature Tower and Hero Honda Chowk.
Here’s what the residents are saying.
IFFCO Chowk: Commuters moving from Delhi towards Jaipur will now take a left from ABW tower. Vehicles moving from Mehrauli, too, have been diverted to avoid congestion. There’s a mandatory left turn at Leisure Valley cut, and then a left turn at T-point. No traffic is being allowed straight across Signature Chowk
Pratibha Sehgal, a daily commuter from MG Road to Delhi, says, “The diversion has undoubtedly made my commute easier by 15 minutes.”
Signature Tower: The commuters from Delhi towards HUDA City Centre (HCC) Metro station will now take a mandatory new diversion at Leisure Valley, 150m ahead of Exit 7. The traffic coming from Jaipur side towards Delhi will now have to take a compulsory left turn towards MDI Chowk, and from there a U-turn to reach NH 8.
However, no diversions have been made on the route from MDI Chowk to HUDA Metro station as of now.
The mandatory U-turn at MDI Chowk for commuters from Jaipur moving towards NH 8
While coming from HCC towards Signature Chowk, there’s a mandatory left towards the highway, and the commuters will have to take the Sector 31 underpass for a U-turn. The straight route is completely closed at Signature Chowk.
A resident of South City I, Priya Sahni, says, “This is weird! No way is leading straight to Signature Towers. I need to drop my daughter for tuitions at Sector 14. For a barely 2-km stretch, I need to take a mandatory U-turn from Sector 31, which is already crowded.”
Vikas Dhiman, who works in Park Centra, shares, “Normally, when I leave from office in the evening, the underpass is jam-packed. Now, the entire Signature Tower traffic is being compulsorily diverted through it. So, you can imagine the chaos!”
Rajiv Chowk: There’s a new diversion close to Rajiv Chowk. Now, commuters will not have to take a long U-turn from Tau Devi Lal Stadium. However, the passage is opened only for light vehicles.
“I have to travel from Sector 31 to Hero Honda — this new passage has made my route easier as I used to get stuck in the long U-turn at Rajiv Chowk, which had a lot of heavy vehicles too,” said Sanjay Virmani, a Hero Honda Employee.
Hero Honda Chowk: A compulsory U-turn has been made below the Hero Honda flyover for commuters from Subhash Chowk towards Sector 10. The traffic from Delhi and Jaipur can also take this U-turn. However, they cannot take an exit for Subhash Chowk from this point. To do so, they will have to go to Rajiv Chowk.
Sunil Kumar, a cab driver, shares, “This stretch has lots of heavy vehicles. So, smaller vehicles would often break traffic rules, leading to jams. The compulsory U-turn is a benefit for the commuters on the stretch.
Speaking to City Spidey, Raj Kumar, road safety officer, said, “We had strict deadlines for these diversions. We are working in close co-ordination with the traffic police and all measures will be taken to ease the situation. We expect better traffic conditions soon.”
