Residents of Sector 137 of Noida on Wednesday met Amit Mohan Prasad, the chief executive officer of Noida Authority, about the Authority's staff burning waste at a dumping ground near their locality. They also handed over a memorandum to the CEO and urged him to look into the issues.

Sandeep Ohri, president of the AOA of Purvanchal Royal Park, a residential society in the sector, said, “The Authority has been dumping waste just 700 m from the sector. It is a major health issue. We have asked the Authority officials to look into the matter right away."

As per the National Green Tribunal, burning of waste in the open is not allowed.

"There was a dense smoke over the dumping site this morning," said Harry Mehta, another resident of Sector 137. “Noida Authority needs to put an end to this practice."

After listening to the residents, Prasad assured them that he would take steps to mitigate the problem. “We are exploring other ways to dispose of waste in the city," he said.
