Is the Millennium City safe after sundown? An emphatic "no" is the answer from residents, particularly women.
Non-functional streetlights in various sectors have made stepping out during late-evening hours a risky affair — and Sector 56 is a case in point.
The main road, a 1.5-km stretch, leads to the HUDA shopping complex of the sector. But this stretch has no functional streetlights.
Shraddha Madaan, an MNC executive and a resident of Kendiya Vihar, said, “When I return from my graveyard shift, I feel scared, as there is barely any light on the streets.”
In the absence of streetlights, residents take their cars to go to the market, as walking feels unsafe — even the internal sector roads are poorly lit.
Shrikant Srivastav of Joy Kunj Apartments said, “The only visibility is because of the headlights of the moving cars.”
Speaking on the subject, HUDA administrator Yashpal Pal Yadav said, “We are working on streetlights across the city. Recently, lights of the main dividing road of sectors 56 and 57 have been changed. We will take up the internal roads too.”
