Noida Authority, in collaboration with the city police, conducted an anti-encroachment drive today at the Sector 50 market.
BM Pokhriyal, project engineer of Noida Authority, told City Spidey that he had received numerous complaints from the residents and RWA of Sector 50. “The hawkers had become a threat to both pedestrians and moving traffic,” he added.
Vimal Sharma, RWA president, said, “People were seen consuming liquor on roadsides after eating food from the roadside stalls. It was becoming increasingly unsafe. After several complaints to Noida Authority and the traffic police, things got done today.”
Noida Authority has already sent its Vendor Zone Policy — a document guiding permanent allocation of space to vendors — to the UP government and is awaiting approval. If approved, Noida Authority will allot spaces to vendors outside residential sectors, from where hawkers and vendors can run their business permanently and without fear of the police.
