To discuss and come up with a solution for the issue of Shahdara drain, the RWA of Sector 14, Noida, organised a conclave at the Sector 14A club on June 19.

Sakhi Prabhu, president of Sector 14 RWA, told City Spidey that the drain was a troublesome issue for people residing in colonies along its length. The residents of these colonies have been suffering due to the odious and corrosive gases being released from the drain. These gases were adversely affecting health, expensive gadgets and the ground water in these areas.

Several officials from Delhi and Noida Authority participated in the event. Residents from sectors 14, 14A, 15 and 15A, and Pankaj Singh, MLA of Gautam Budh Nagar, were also present on the occasion.

Dr Bhure Lal, chairman of Environment Pollution Control Authority, assured residents that he would take up the matter urgently and decried the efforts of Delhi government to solve the problem. He resolved that priority would be given to the seven-kilometre stretch of the drain up to Okhla barrage.

Soumya Srivastav, deputy CEO of Noida Authority, said, “I will take this initiative to a higher level and will try to get relief for citizens of both Noida and Delhi, who have been affected.”

Meanwhile, Singh said that he would take up the matter with Noida Authority and arrive at a solution.
