To minimise traffic violations, Noida city police today has decided to penalise those in the habit of jumping traffic lights.

Today, Love Kumar, senior superintendent of police, GB Nagar, and Anil Kumar Jha, superintendent of police (traffic), flagged off two e-challan vehicles from district police headquarters in Surajpur.

The vehicles are equipped with CCTV cameras that are to capture shots of vehicles jumping traffic lights or commuters driving on the wrong side of the road.

Challans will also be issued to commuters who stop their vehicles at unauthorised parking lots.

Earlier, manual challans were issued.

Jha said, “The vehicles will move across different sectors to curb traffic violations. It will capture images of vehicles crossing signals even when the light is not green. Defaulters will be issued e-challans, and the same will be sent by post as well. The move is expected to control traffic-rules violations.”
