To achieve the 5,000-mark in the sapling-planting drive, which began in Sushant Lok I last week, two NGOs have now associated themselves with the initiative.

Give Me Trees, one of the world’s largest conservation movements, and Plant Your Tree, another similar NGO, have joined the drive.

The aim of the initiative is not only to make the area greener, but also to push up the falling water table.

Interestingly, there is a good amount of corporate participation, and employees from various companies have been taking part in the drive.

The drive has so far covered four parks — 260 saplings of peepal, jamun, banyan, neem, amaltas and pilkhan have been planted.

Speaking to City Spidey, Sudhir Sachdeva, founder of Sachdeva Foundation, an NGO associated with the drive, said, “We want all the help we can get. We want MNCs, hospitals and other organisations to volunteer for ‘tree guards’ — people who can be responsible for protecting the saplings.”
