'Forget we told you about waterlogging, just give us boats!'

Waterlogged? Might as well have a boat ride. Yes! To drive home a point, East Delhi RWAs have now asked for boats from the government to get around the waterlogged streets.

Hurled as a jest, the written request to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and EDMC mayor Neema Bhagat highlights the failure of the government to deal with the monsoons year after year.

In the letter, the RWA federation alleged that government agencies have yet again failed to remove silt from drains in residential colonies.

It further states that the roads have been levelled numerous times with bitumen over the years, raising their elevation in comparison to the societies on either side. The localities can, therefore, be flooded any time.

BS Vohra, president of RWA Federation of East Delhi, thus quipped, “What else could we do but ask for boats from the chief minister and the EDMC mayor! The chief minister himself admits that PWD has not cleaned the drains this year — something that has been proved in the Delhi High Court as well. In case of heavy rains, all drains will get choked.”

“The government and the corporation may take this letter lightly, but we will keep sending such letters time and again to remind them of their utter failure,” he iterated.
