Following the tussle in Mahag u n  Moderne  in Sector 78, Noida, on Wednesday, the police  ha s  woken up to issue of  verification of  domestic helps  working in the  city . The police has now initiated the process for verification of domestic helps in the society.

AK Singh,  SP City  of Noida , said there were more than 2,500 families living in Mahagun Moderne,  and more than 500 domestic helps. The police has fo rmed four  teams  for the verification process of these  500 domestic helps .

In the first phase, the identity and whereabouts of  people  who were named in the police complaint will be re-verified.

Singh further  said that after complet ing   verification in the society , the initiative would be extended to the rest of the city. The name, address, photo, identity card s of these helps  and their place of  origin will be  checked.   T he police will send a record for verification to the  related  district police,  and criminal records, if any, will also be investigated.

Apart from domestic workers, people living in PGs and flat tenants will also be verified.

In the incident of mob violence on Wednesday, a  group of domestic helps had raised allegations that a flat owner in the society had  forcefully held a  maid hostage . The domestic helps had  pelted stones inside the society from the gate, resulting in a violent clash between society guards and domestic helps, forcing the police to intervene.

The flat owner, on his part, had alleged that the maid had stolen money from  his  flat , which were captured by a CCTV camera .

Strangely, a spin-off of this incident has been a collective reservation on the part of residents that most of these domestic helps are from Bangladesh, and hence "outsiders". Most are calling for proper  investigation into them  from the police.

Rajneesh, a  resident of the society, demanded that intense investigation be conducted on the 500 people who had attacked the society on Wednesday.  As soon as police investigations started,  the slums  of Sector 76, where most of these helps were said to be living, were  found empty  and locked .
