Waging war against mosquitoes is something that many have tried and failed. Which is why, Mayor of Dwarka B (Ward 38S) Kamaljeet Sehrawat on Saturday, launched an initiative to create awareness among people about the need to reduce the mosquito menace, by trying to deny them breeding grounds.
If the breeding grounds of mosquitoes are attacked, fighting the menace will get that added push. When we keep water bodies clean and make them rid of the insects that are proving to be dangerous, it is also possible to check vector borne diseases, Mayor Sehrawat said. Addressing a gathering at the community centre of Municipal Corporation, Sector 23, she said, “Prevention is better than cure. All efforts must be taken to prevent vector borne diseases."
The meeting was convened by RWAs of the area. It is very important to make the community aware of the diseases such as dengue and chikunguniya that are spread by mosquitoes.
On the occasion Deputy Commissioner of Nazafgarh Zone, SDMC, Sanjeev Kumar, Additional MHO, SDMC, CR Verma and other officials were also present at the function.
Mayor told City Spidey that “We requested the people to disinfect the coolers with required chemicals to check mosquito breeding. It was also shown to people how to detect and recognise live larva of mosquitoes.” The Mayor also appealed to the people to check vector-borne diseases in the area.
A tree-planting programme was also held to mark the occasion. SDMC, horticulture department, held the event at Sector 19, where the mayor and residents planted saplings. "We want more greenery in the area. This season we are involved community people, RWAs, NGOs and social organisations. We are providing plants for plantation and anyone can collect it from SDMC. We want to involve more people in plantation drives,” the Mayor said.
