What’s in a name plate? Plenty!

A lot is riding on it, feels Ramesh Vashishtha of Sector 15, Gurgaon. His name plate reflects the style and elegance of London — and no less.

The name plate hangs by chains from a carved beam attached to a pole. Small pots have been hung on another carved beam from the same pole to add English quaintness. The pole has a small bulb that can be lit after dark to add some atmosphere, and also make reading easy after sundown.

Such plates are also common in Chandigarh homes, claims Vashishtha. “The English look certainly is elegant,” Vashishtha says, with a lot of pride in his voice.

The idea came to Vashishtha during his trip to London.

In fact, the whole thing looks so pretty that an entire lane of houses has adopted the idea.

“Initially, I thought this was just one of those quirky ideas, but appreciation from all quarters made me feel really good,” admitted SC Gupta, a resident of the lane.

Most passers-by seem impressed and admiring glances fly thick and fast.
