Days after district administration and Noida Authority acted against illegal vendors and hawkers following the High Court order to remove them from the busy Atta Market in Noida, hawkers are back to haunt, but this time in Sector 25. Or so claims the RWA of Jalvayu Vihar.
Squadron Leader (retd) DP Goel, Chairman of Jalvayu Vihar RWA said that more than a dozen hawkers who have been forcefully removed from Atta market have shifted to Sector 25, setting up food and fruit stalls outside Jalvayu Vihar Shopping Complex. This, residents claim, is causing grave inconvenience when they come out to shop.
Goel pointed out that as both sides of the road have been illegally occupied by hawkers, bikers and car drivers have no option but to park their vehicles right on the main road. This, of course, leads to massive traffic jams, especially in the evening hours.
In fact, the hawkers are so emboldened that they are putting up a stiff fight against residents and shopkeepers of the area who object to this illegal encroachment. "When we resisted them from setting up stalls on road side, the hawkers hurled abuses at us. They also threatened that if any complaint is lodged against them they would block the entrance of the shopping complex with more stalls," says Ramagya Kanojiya, Chairman of Jalvayu Vihar Shopping Complex.
Not that it deterred the shopkeepers from filing a complaint against illegal hawking, which they did last week, but going by the silence from the authorities, it looks like the hawkers are here to stay for a while.
