Here is good news for residents of Ghaziabad. The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) has announced construction of 52 community centres in different wards of the city.

Once these centres are ready, the residents won’t have to book banquet halls for parties and marriage ceremonies at enormous cost.

The Mayor of Ghaziabad, Ashu Verma, told City Spidey that of the 80 wards of the city, only 28 boast of community centres of their own. Corporators of the remaining 52 wards, where community centre is non-existent, have been asked to identify sites for community centres in their respective areas.

An allocation of Rs 30 lakh has been sanctioned for each community centre which will have a hall, toilets and water connection. The income generated from booking of the centres would be used for their maintenance and upkeep.

Welcoming the GMC move, President of Nehru Nagar RWA, Mahipal Singh Panwar, said apart from saving money, the residents will have the advantage of hosting social and community events nearer their homes.
