Charity begins at home — for The Fresco in Nirvana Country, it begins at a fridge installed at the society’s gate.

The condominium in Sector 50, Gurgaon, launched an initiative to provide surplus food to the poor. Christened, Any Time Food (ATF), the community food programme has the support of Lioness Club Sampoorna in Suncity.

A community fridge has been installed near the entry gate of the society. All residents have been requested to wrap their surplus food in small packets and mention the date and name of the preparation on the wrapper.

The residents are encouraged to leave the packed food in the community fridge. They can do so any time — it’s a round-the-clock food service.

“There are so many people who have no food to eat. With this initiative, our condominium will be able to provide surplus food to those who need it,” said Nilesh Tandon, president of The Fresco.

Residents have welcomed the move.

Yogesh Matta, a resident, opined, “We all have some extra food left after parties and get-togethers. That food can easily be utilised to feed the hungry. Moreover, feeding them on auspicious occasions is considered a good deed by many. So, it’s a win-win situation. It was heartening to see people come forward so eagerly.”
